Project 1

Measuring entanglement in quantum field theory

Entanglement is a fundamental property of quantum systems. However, measuring entanglement in quantum many-body systems is challenging, especially in quantum field theories, which are among the most fundamental theories of physics.

Objectives

We want to measure entanglement in an extended continuous many-body system and investigate the scaling of the quantum information measures such as von Neuman entropy, quantum mutual information, and logarithmic negativity.

Results

We have successfully upgraded and implemented a tomography method to read out the density matrix of our many-body quantum field simulator. We further measured von Neuman entropy and quantum mutual information and their scaling. At the moment, we are developing further experimental techniques to produce even colder states to get closer to the regime, where we can reliably measure entanglement in a quantum field theory.
